I hope this email finds you all happy and well as we come to the end of 2018! As I begin my
second year as President of this esteemed study club, I am excited to share some upcoming
opportunities that we have within the organization.
First, we are pleased to have online registration and payment of dues and tuition fees! Hurray
technology! The dues for 2019 can be paid by clicking the link on this website.
Secondly, as many of you who have attended recent meetings know, we have had some discussion as to
how to encourage participation at the Board level. We have many talented individuals in the
group who are willing to contribute, but not all feel comfortable with the commitment that is required
with the current structure of the Board. Therefore, after much discussion, the Board will be
putting forward a proposed By law change prior to our March meeting. Currently, the Executive Board
is composed of Secretary, Vice President (who also acts as the CE chairperson), President, Immediate
Past President and Treasurer. The Treasurer is a 4 year position, and they can be reelected for a
second four year term if they would like. The Secretary, Vice President and President all hold each
office for 2 years, and then 'move up' to the next position. The challenge we have found with this over
the years is that by holding a position for two years and then moving on makes it difficult to have
the time to truly understand and feel comfortable with the position you are in before having to learn
a new position. Also, it requires someone coming onto the Board to essentially make an 8 year commitment.
Our proposal is to move the Secretary to a fixed 4 year position, like the Treasurer, which can be
re elected, but does not require the individual to move onto the Vice President and President position.
We will add a position of CE Coordinator to our Board, which will also be a fixed 4 year position,
which can also be re elected. That will leave the roles of Vice President and President staying as 2
year terms, with the understanding that the Vice President will move into the position of President.
The proposed By laws will be distributed to the membership prior to the 30 day notice as required to
hold such a vote. The Board does welcome any comments or feedback any of you have with those proposed
Lastly, we have some AMAZING courses lined up for future meetings. We are very excited about our spring
course - Dr. Stephen Chu will be lecturing on Mindfulness in Dental Implant Planning and Restoring March
22-24th in Burlington, MA. The combination of such an amazing speaker at such a bargain price - we are
anticipating this course to SELL OUT quickly, so please register as soon as possible.
October 25-27th 2019 we have Dr. Lou Graham speaking on Technological and Geriatric Challenges in the 21st Century.
March 13-14th 2020 – Gregg Kinzer and Vince Kockich – exact topic still being decided upon.
I want to thank again Dr. James Marshall, our current Vice President, who has worked very hard to put
together this fantastic lineup of speakers. Its very impressive for a study club, especially in keeping in
line with our very low membership dues and tuition costs.
To conclude, I am as always, honored to be a part of this amazing group. The depth of passion and knowledge
that everyone has for our profession is inspiring. At every meeting, I truly feel like I take away as much
from discussion with my fellow NEMSC members as I do the speaker. As current President, I am thankful for
the guidance and support that I have from our many Past Presidents who are still very much active and engaged.
And I am looking forward to seeing our membership continue to grow with those who have recently achieved the
goal of Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry.
